Description
Our durable, solid braided nylon rope makes a great general purpose utility rope best suited for applications where the ability to stretch and very high strength are required. Our solid braids are made from 100% nylon fibers braided in a lock-stitch design to keep it from unraveling. This round, firm cord is flexible, strong and ties knots well. Solid braid rope is superior in some ways to a 3 strand twisted rope since it is torque free and smoother over pulleys and other surfaces.
Nylon is the most popular synthetic fiber for rope and cord due to its elasticity and strength. It has excellent resistance to abrasion, UV degradation, rot, marine growth, mildew and most chemicals, making it great for outdoor and marine use. This is especially important for marine applications such as anchor lines and dock lines where the ability to withstand shock loading will prevent damage to your property. Standard colors are black and white. Many other colors are available but may require lead times and minimums.
Should I buy nylon or polyester?
There are some differences between nylon and polyester. Nylon is slightly stronger, and much more elastic or given to stretch. This can be an advantage or disadvantage depending on your application. If you need a high-stretch rope go with this nylon.
Polyester has better abrasion resistance and UV resistance than nylon, but much less elasticity. If you need a low stretch, durable rope, go with Solid Braid Polyester, instead of this nylon.
Our nylon has a melting point of about 490 degrees Fahrenheit, and starts to lose strength at around 240 degrees Fahrenheit. Nylon rope can shrink around 10% when wet and also lose around 10% of its strength. Please take this into consideration when ordering.
