Details

Our durable, solid braid nylon rope makes a great general purpose utility rope best suited for applications where the ability to stretch and very high strength are required. Our solid braids are made from 100% nylon fibers braided in a lock-stitch design to keep it from unraveling. This round, firm cord is flexible, strong and ties knots well. Solid braid rope is superior in some ways to a 3 strand twisted rope since it is torque free and smoother over pulleys and other surfaces.

Nylon is the most popular synthetic fiber for rope and cord due to its elasticity and strength. It has excellent resistance to abrasion, UV degradation, rot, marine growth, mildew and most chemicals, making it great for outdoor and marine use. This is especially important for marine applications such as anchor lines and dock lines where the ability to withstand shock loading will prevent damage to your property. Standard colors are black and white. Many other colors are available but may require lead times and minimums.

One of the 1/8" black ropes was not sealed on the end (just taped) and came undone almost immediately. The 3x 15' lengths of 1/4" white rope were not cut at all, just taped where someone would cut the 45' piece they had rolled off.

The worst part - it turns out that all of the 1/4" that was shipped is actually 3/16" according to my Mitutoyo Digital Super Caliper. I thought it looked small, and sure enough, compared to all my other 1/4" rope it was smaller, and when I measured it I got 0.1875".

I performed my safety checks and test ties with them, and unfortunately due to the smaller diameter they cut off circulation pretty quickly, so I cannot use them for shibari (my stated intended purpose).

I'm genuinely disappointed with what I received from this order. You guys seem very friendly and passionate about rope on your site and videos, and I wanted to give you direct and honest feedback in the hopes that your QA process improves and helps you get better.

P.S. I initially wrote this in an email to support but never received a reply.

Should I Buy Nylon or Polyester?

There are some differences between nylon and polyester. Nylon is slightly stronger, and much more elastic or given to stretch. This can be an advantage or disadvantage depending on your application. If you need a high-stretch rope go with this nylon.

Polyester has better abrasion resistance and UV resistance than nylon, but much less elasticity. If you need a low stretch, durable rope, go with Solid Braid Polyester, instead of this nylon.

Our nylon has a melting point of about 490 degrees Fahrenheit, and starts to lose strength at around 240 degrees Fahrenheit. Nylon rope can shrink around 10% when wet and also lose around 10% of its strength. Please take this into consideration when ordering.

Price Hacks

You can order solid braid nylon rope by the foot in any length you want. Consider these ways you can place your order to save money.

Incremental Pricing

There are price breaks you can take advantage of by buying in the increments outlined above. For example, buying a 100’ piece is a much better price per foot than buying 98’ by the foot. Consider rounding up to the next incremental pricing bracket to save yourself some money.

Combining Incremental Pricing and ‘By the Foot’

You can also save money by buying an even increment plus a few feet by the foot.

Example 1: If you need 117’ in one continuous piece you can add two items to your cart, a 100’ increment and quantity ‘17’ by the foot. We can send you the 117’ piece in one continuous length. Just leave us a note during checkout about how you want your rope cut.

Example 2: If you need two pieces 60’ each, the best way to buy it would be to add two items to your cart, a 100’ increment and quantity ‘20’ by the foot. Just leave a note letting us know you want two 60’ pieces.
