Description

Double braid polyester, also called braid on braid, is made in the USA from 100% high-tenacity polyester yarns: a braided core inside a braided jacket. That build is typically the strongest way to make a rope, and it's torque-free, so it won't hockle or kink, and most sizes splice easily. Polyester gives it low stretch and strong resistance to rubbing, sun, rot, mildew and marine growth, which is why it's used for rigging, pulling, sailing lines and general utility. Compared with double braid nylon, it stretches much less and resists wear and sun better, while nylon is slightly stronger and the pick when you want stretch. It meets or exceeds the Cordage Institute specifications for high-performance rope.

  • Soft, flexible and easy to handle
  • Stretches roughly 15% at breaking strength
  • Holds its strength up to about 240°F, and melts near 490°F
  • White with black, blue and gray tracers

Questions

About the rope

Should I buy polyester or nylon?

Polyester has better abrasion and UV resistance than nylon, and much less stretch. If you need a low stretch, durable rope, choose polyester.

Nylon is slightly stronger but stretches much more. Choose nylon if you want a rope that stretches.

How much does it stretch?

We only have breaking strength test reports for this rope. Like other polyester ropes, it stretches roughly 15% at breaking strength, and roughly in a straight line down to zero.

Will it kink?

No. Double braid has a braided inner core and a braided outer jacket. It is torque-free and will not hockle or kink.

What colors does it come in?

White with black, blue and gray tracers.

Can it be spliced? Can I get custom ends?

Most diameters can be spliced. Custom lengths and ends are available.

Is it made to a standard?

It meets or exceeds the Cordage Institute specifications for high-performance ropes.
