Here at RightRope, one of our most popular products is our 100% cotton macrame cord. Our cotton is grown in the USA and the cord is spun here too. We sell 24 different variations of single strand macrame cord in bulk tubes. We also sell 3-strand twisted cotton rope, by the foot. Both single strand and 3-strand cord are commonly used in macrame designs. In this post, we’ll tell you what makes our cord special and what you can make with it.
What is Macrame?
Macrame is an art that’s all about knotting, and it’s been around for thousands of years. Carvings from as far back as the Assyrian and Babylonian empires depicted decoration made from knotted designs. Around the world, you can find art made from trying knots.
In the 70s, macrame could be found in all kinds of textile designs in the United States. Today it’s popular again, but the aesthetic has changed a bit. These days, cotton cord is the more popular material. The knotting and overall design style has changed as well, but the general concept is still the same.
What Can I Make with Macrame Cord?
There are endless project possibilities with macrame! The most popular projects among our customers include plant hangers, jewelry, wall hangings, bags, coasters, placemats, and other home décor items. Making macrame designs is a fun and creative way to express yourself. It’s also possible to dye our cord for an even more unique look. Check out our Instagram for more inspiration!
What do Our Customers Have to Say?
What Makes RightRope’s Cord Special?
Our single strand macrame cord is 100% cotton. Single strand means that the cord has many fine threads twisted into one string. It’s made in the USA, unbleached, and has a natural off-white color. Our macrame cord is soft and knots well.
Many industrial cotton ropes on the market are a blend of cotton and synthetic fibers like polypropylene, acrylic, or polyester. When you choose RightRope, you get 100% cotton cord. This means that our cotton ropes are also safe to use with pets and birds.
Macrame Cord vs. Cotton Rope
RightRope’s macrame cord is single twist, and our cotton rope has a different texture and feel. Our cotton rope is also made from 100% cotton, but it features 3 strands twisted together instead of a single strand. Both cotton cord and cotton rope can be used for various craft purposes including macrame designs.
Our macrame cord comes in 4 different weight options: 2.5, 5, 10, or 20 pound tubes. For each tube, we offer 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6 mm cord. Our 3-strand cotton rope comes in 11 diameters, sold by the foot. The most popular diameters for macrame crafts are 3/16 inch, 7/32 inch, or ¼ inch. 3/16 inch cotton rope is similar to 5 mm macrame cord.
When your macrame cord arrives you will notice that it’s tightly wound on the tube, making the diameter look smaller than it actually is. As you start to take it off the tube, the cord will loosen up and be easier to work with.
